Ammunition in Bluffton, South Carolina

Ammunition in Bluffton, South Carolina

Plantation Iron stocks ammunition for handguns, rifles, and shotguns at our shop on Goethe Rd. in Bluffton. If you are hunting, training, carrying, or just keeping a reasonable supply on hand, you can buy it here without waiting on a shipment or paying to have it delivered.

We serve Bluffton, Hilton Head Island, Okatie, and the surrounding Lowcountry.

What We Carry

Handgun Ammunition

Common defensive and range calibers, in both practice and defensive loads. If you carry, it is worth shooting the same ammunition you carry at least occasionally, and we can talk through what makes sense for your firearm.

Rifle Ammunition

Hunting and sporting calibers, including what Lowcountry deer hunters actually use. If you are working up a load for a specific rifle or hunting a particular property, come talk to us rather than guessing from a shelf label.

Shotgun Shells

Birdshot, buckshot, and slugs across common gauges. Dove, duck, deer, turkey, and home defense all call for different loads, and the differences matter more than most buyers expect.

Rimfire

Rimfire for training, small game, and teaching new shooters. It remains the cheapest way to build real skill.

Stock changes, so if you need something specific, call ahead at (843) 757-6900 and we will tell you honestly whether we have it.

Why Buy Ammunition Locally

  • You can ask questions. Choosing between two loads for a specific firearm or a specific hunt is a conversation, not a product listing. That conversation is free and it happens across the counter.
  • No shipping cost or wait. Ammunition is heavy, which makes it expensive to ship. Buying locally removes both the cost and the delay.
  • You can buy what you need now. No minimum order, no case quantity, no waiting for a delivery window because you are heading out this weekend.
  • Storage advice included. Ammunition stored badly in this climate degrades. We will tell you how to store it properly, which matters more here than in most of the country.

Storing Ammunition on the Coast

This is the part most Lowcountry shooters underestimate. Ammunition is not immune to humidity, and the failure mode is quiet.

Corroded cases and primers do not always look obviously bad, but they can cause misfires and inconsistent performance. A box that has spent a summer in a hot vehicle, a garage, or a damp shed is not the same box you put away.

Keep ammunition in a cool, dry place with stable temperature. A sealed container with a desiccant pack is a meaningful upgrade over an open shelf. Do not store it in a vehicle through the summer. And rotate your stock, using the oldest first rather than letting boxes sit for years.

The same coastal conditions affect your firearms, and that is worth reading about separately in our guide to firearm care in Lowcountry humidity.

Common Questions

Do I need to be a South Carolina resident to buy ammunition?

No. Come in with valid identification and meet the applicable age requirements. If you have a question about your specific situation, call and ask before you drive over.

Can you order something you do not stock?

Call and ask. Depending on what it is and current availability, we can often help.

Do you sell ammunition for firearms you did not sell me?

Of course. Where you bought the firearm makes no difference.

Can you help me figure out what to buy?

That is a large part of why buying in person is worth the trip. Tell us the firearm and what you are doing with it, and we will point you toward something appropriate.

Coming From Hilton Head

We are about twenty minutes across the bridge, and island residents buy ammunition here regularly because there are few options on the island. Our Hilton Head page has directions and covers everything else we offer.

Also at the Shop

Alongside ammunition we handle full-time gunsmithing, FFL transfers, and firearm sales. If you are picking up ammunition and something on your rifle has been bothering you, bring it in and we will look at it.
